Recording
How to record and transcribe Discord voice conversations
Type /record in any text channel while in a voice channel to start recording.
How It Works
- Invite NoteCat to your server
- Join a voice channel
- Type
/recordin any text channel - NoteCat joins and starts recording
To stop: click End Recording on the message NoteCat posts in the text channel.
Who Can End a Recording
Any of the following can end an active recording:
- The person who started it
- Anyone currently in the voice channel
- Anyone with Manage Server permission
NoteCat also automatically ends recordings after 2 minutes of inactivity (no one speaking).
What Gets Captured
- Audio from users who have not opted out of recording in that server
- Join/leave and mute/unmute events for recorded participants
- Timestamps for each segment
Recording Preference
Anyone can run /opt-out in a Discord server to manage whether NoteCat records their voice in that server. The command replies privately with Opt Out and Opt Back In buttons.
When someone opts out, NoteCat skips their voice in new manual recordings and auto-recordings for that server. If they opt out while a recording is already active, NoteCat stops recording their voice from that point forward.
This setting is server-specific and is not retroactive. It does not remove audio, transcript text, summaries, voice events, or exports that were already captured before the opt-out.
If an opted-out member speaks during a recording, a notice is added to the recording showing that an opted-out user spoke. It does not identify who spoke, what was said, or when it was said.
Live Transcription
NoteCat posts real-time transcript updates to the text channel, showing speaker names and what they said. Updates appear every few seconds.
After Recording
NoteCat automatically processes the audio and generates an AI summary and title. This takes a few minutes for long recordings. View it in your dashboard.
